Looking for a transmission repair?
We are planning a weekend mountain trip, but the vehicle's behavior on steep hills is making me very nervous lately. When the transmission tries to downshift to give the engine more climbing power, it seems to hesitate and drop out of gear unexpectedly. The engine revs up high for a moment, then drops back down, creating a very unstable driving experience. Do you think a simple fluid top-off will fix this?

A low fluid level can certainly cause cavitation and a loss of pressure, but hesitation under load is a serious red flag. Steep inclines put maximum stress on your geartrain, and a failing system will likely leave you stranded.
